CDV of Lt. James H. Hildreth, 2nd USSS,
2005, Historic Americana / June 9-10
by G.H. Billings, Lebanon, N.H., ink signed “Lieut. J. H. Hildreth/Cornish N.H/Gen Gibbons Staff” on back. Hildreth entered the Sharpshooters as a 1st Lieutenant in September 1861 and resigned in August 1863. At Gettysburg, he served as General Gibbon’s acting ADC at division and corps and was with the general when he was wounded on July 3rd.
