A Fine Quarter Plate Daguerreotype of a California Gold Mining Operation,

anonymous, identified in period ink on verso of plate Sluice Mining Near Auburn, Calio[sic]. A strong scene showing a deep ditch with two sluice runs flanked by ten miners, some holding tools, one running a wheelbarrow over a plank bridge. A split rail fence is visible at the left, and in the distance, beyond a grove of trees, a number of outbuildings of a rancheria or farm are visible. Housed in a black quarter plate thermoplastic wallframe.

Condition: Resealed, with the original seals added over the top of filmoplast p90. Plate with strong tonality. One fairly large horizontal scratch upper left, but not terribly detracting.
